Since joining Staffordshire Police in 2002 David has built a reputation for drive and innovation in public relations and engagement.
Currently David is on secondment from Staffordshire Police to the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) Digital Policing Portfolio (DPP) in the role of Business Engagement Officer.
Working as part of the national team developing and delivering a range of new digital services that support the prevention and detection of crime and improve the relationship between the public and police.
Described as ‘best in class’ by senior managers at Facebook in terms of leading public sector digital engagement, he is often called to provide both tactical and strategic support to colleagues across policing.
David is a key driver in the use of social media channels in UK policing and helped to write the national ACPO/NPIA Engage Guide in relation to police use of social media. In 2015, working with EUROPOL, David helped create the Social Media Handbook for European Policing.
He also leads on Facebook issues for UK Policing and as a result helped arrange for UK Police Facebook pages to become verified and Facebook published their first ever case study on a government agency based Staffordshire Police.
David is an experienced police communicator and has lead on the communications response to numerous high level police incidents including summer’s disorder in 2011, large-scale protests, football disorder, counter terrorism investigations, major incidents and murder inquiries. In terms of proactive planned activity David helped establish the Operation Nemesis brand for tackling drugs in Staffordshire and leads on engagement and recruitment events for the force.
David is an experienced police communicator and has led on the communications response to numerous police incidents including last summer’s riots, large-scale protests, football disorder, counter terrorism, major incidents and murder inquiries.
